Huai'an Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage National Demonstration Project Successfully Achieves Full Load Stable Operation

      Recently, in the Huai'an Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage National Demonstration Project led by Jiangsu Guoxin Group, the world's first 330 ℃ and 300MW large air turbine (expander) designed, manufactured, supplied, and debugged independently by Shanghai Electric has successfully achieved full load stable operation with excellent performance in various indicators. This marks a breakthrough in the field of high-capacity, high parameter compressed air energy storage technology and equipment in China.
      The Huai'an Salt Cave Compressed Air Energy Storage Project started construction on April 28, 2024, utilizing the 900000 cubic meters of salt cave resources already mined out in the Jiangnan mining area of Huai'an City to build two sets of 300000 kilowatt compressed air energy storage power stations. This project is also a national production demonstration application project for major technological equipment, with all core equipment and main technologies being domestically produced and researched.

      Salt cavern compressed air energy storage is a large-scale physical energy storage technology that utilizes underground salt cavern storage of compressed air to achieve peak shaving and valley filling in the power grid. New energy storage is a key link in supporting the consumption of new energy, and salt cavern compressed air energy storage is an important practice among them. The salt cavern has a stable cavity structure and good sealing performance, with sodium chloride crystals attached to the inner wall, and extremely strong pressure bearing capacity. Idle salt caverns can be used for storing various substances and are also suitable for air energy storage and power generation. During periods of low electricity consumption, the air at room temperature and pressure is compressed into a high-pressure state and stored in underground salt caverns; During peak electricity consumption, high-pressure air is released to drive the generator set to generate electricity.
      Huaqiang New Energy will provide a low-pressure exhaust system for the air turbine in this project, including low-pressure exhaust devices, expansion joints, baffle doors, silencing towers, and related accessories. The technical requirements for the exhaust system product function, design conditions, performance requirements, quality control and inspection requirements, supervision requirements, delivery schedule, packaging, transportation and storage requirements, and technical services in compressed air energy storage projects are different from those of conventional products. The company has selected technical backbone teams, digested the needs of the demand side, continuously optimized solutions, and timely and effectively completed the support work of the industrial chain links.
