From January to July, the total electricity consumption in China was 6.14 trillion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%. The electricity consumption of primary, secondary, tertiary, and urban and rural residents increased by 3.5%, 4.7%, 7.4%, and 1.3% respectively year-on-year; The growth rates of electricity consumption for primary, tertiary, and urban and rural residents decreased by 7.3 percentage points, 0.4 percentage points, and 6.3 percentage points respectively compared to the same period last year; The cumulative growth rate of the secondary industry increased by 2.0 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The electricity consumption in July showed the following characteristics:
Firstly, the growth rate of electricity consumption in the tertiary industry is the fastest among all industries, and due to the impact of lower temperatures than the same period last year, the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents has significantly decreased. In July, the electricity consumption of the primary industry, secondary industry, tertiary industry, and urban and rural residents increased by -2.0%, 3.0%, 4.8%, and -5.1% year-on-year, respectively. Due to the high base growth rate of residential electricity consumption caused by extreme high temperatures in the Huang Huai region of North China during the same period last year, the growth rate of urban and rural residential electricity consumption in July this year decreased by 23.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year, dragging down the overall increase in electricity consumption by 59.4%, which is the main reason for the slow growth of electricity consumption in the whole society. In July, the domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents in Shandong (-20.7%), Anhui (-24.0%), Hubei (-18.5%), Hunan (-11.4%), Jiangxi (-12.5%), and Jiangsu (-11.7%) showed double-digit negative growth year-on-year.
The second is the outstanding performance of electricity consumption in high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries. The electricity consumption of high-tech and equipment manufacturing industry increased by 8.9% year-on-year, 1.7 percentage points higher than the same period last year, and contributed 55.8% to the incremental electricity consumption of the secondary industry; Among the sub industries, the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry (14.2%), instrument and meter manufacturing industry (12.7%), automobile manufacturing industry (10.9%), specialized equipment manufacturing industry (10.4%), general equipment manufacturing industry (10.1%), and computer/communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry (9.6%) maintained rapid growth. Among them, the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry and the computer/communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry contributed a total of 33% to the increase in national electricity consumption for the month.
Thirdly, the consumer goods manufacturing industry shows a trend of stable basic consumption. In July, the electricity consumption of the consumer goods manufacturing industry increased by 4.3% year-on-year, accounting for 14.4% of the total increase in electricity consumption in society. It is the second largest positive driving sector in the manufacturing industry after high-tech equipment, significantly stronger than the overall high capacity sector. Among the sub industries, the paper and paper products industry (10.7%), textile industry (4.7%), and food manufacturing industry (4.5%) have relatively leading growth rates.
Fourthly, the use of new kinetic energy for electricity continues to grow rapidly, and the supporting role of new quality productivity in electricity consumption continues to strengthen. Driven by the dual wheels of digital economy and transportation electrification, in July, the electricity consumption of the national charging and swapping service industry reached 16.42 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 50.3%; The power consumption of Internet data services was 9.91 billion kWh, up 40.1% year on year; The electricity consumption of the information transmission, software, and information technology services industry reached 21.03 billion kilowatt hours, a year-on-year increase of 15.8%. In July, the electricity consumption increment of Internet data service and charge and replace service industry exceeded 80% of the electricity consumption increment of the tertiary industry.
